UCC-based expert says combination of lack of transport, mental health supports and local services are leaving patients and families isolated.
An expert in Speech and Language Therapy says that stroke victims in rural Cork and Kerry are being left to suffer due to a lack of proper services in the region.
Dr Helen Kelly, a Senior Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy at University College Cork, was speaking at the launch of a new report which outlines the services available to stroke survivors across Munster.
The report, launched in conjunction with Cork Stroke Support, found that 14 community-based services are available to stroke survivors across Cork and Kerry. However, many of these are national services or Facebook groups that are only accessible online.
