Cork Stroke Support is a charitable company limited by guarantee and was incorporated in 2022.
The charity was established under a memorandum of association and is governed by our Governing Document (Our Constitution).
The object of the charity included in the memorandum of association is to provide support, encouragement, information, exercise and enabling activities for stroke survivors and their families and represent and respond to their needs.
The charity shall have the following subsidiary objectives:
- Provide support and encouragement in a friendly and relaxed environment.
- Address information needs of stroke survivors and families.
- Ease the transition from hospital to home.
- Sustain motivation, promote independence, and optimise functional gains.
- Promote health and wellbeing.
- Reduce stroke related disability and the impact of chronic disease.
- Advocate and address the unmet needs of stroke survivors.
Cork Stroke Support is governed by a board of directors who give their time and advice freely as volunteers. Directors are appointed for three years and are eligible for reappointment for one more three-year term (for a maximum of six years).
All directors are non-executive and receive no renumeration for their services. Our board of directors represent a diverse range of experience and expertise. The board meet at least seven times per year both in person and online and have the responsibility of overseeing Cork Stroke Support.
Board members of Cork Stroke Support sign up to a code of conduct for directors and sign a declaration of interest form. A standing item on all board meeting agendas is the conflicts of interest question.
The chairperson is elected by the board for a tenure of three years. At the end of this three-year term, the chairperson may be reappointed for a maximum of a further three years.
