We have partnered with fellow charity SHEP to deliver a subsidised counselling service for our members. This service is open to all members and caters for both stroke survivors and their families.
Counselling at the centre has a large uptake with many members reporting the benefits of attending sessions.
Strokes can lead to depression, anxiety and personality changes. Counselling can provide a safe space to process these feelings and help with post – stroke depression.
It enables stroke survivors to manage emotional and mental health, facilitate adjustment and improve rehabilitation outcomes. It also promotes a positive outlook and addresses cognitive changes.
Caregivers can find themselves in this new role overnight and can be at risk of burnout due to stress. Counselling is of huge importance to these members also.
