As a resident taxpayer in Ireland, when you donate to a registered charity, your donation can go considerably further — at no extra cost to you.What’s the Deal?
- If you donate €250 or more in any one calendar year to a charity approved under the Revenue Commissioners (or to another “approved body”), your donation qualifies for the tax-relief scheme.
- Once you give €250+, you sign a simple form (typically called a CHY3 Certificate — an “Enduring Certificate” — or a CHY4 Certificate / annual certificate) that allows Cork Stroke Support to claim back the tax paid on your donation from Revenue.
- The CHY3 Enduring Certificate lasts 5 years, so you don’t need to complete a new one each year.
What’s the Impact?
- With the tax relief applied, a donation of €250 becomes worth approximately €362.30.
- That’s roughly a 45% bonus on your donation — which means Cork Stroke Support receives significantly more to support its programmes.
- The scheme can be used by any individual taxpayer (PAYE or self-assessed) living in Ireland, and the benefit applies whether you give a one-off donation or multiple donations over the course of a year.
What You Need to Do
- Ensure your total donations to the charity in a given year reach €250 or more.
- When the charity asks (or shortly after you donate), complete and sign the CHY3 (or CHY4) form — you’ll usually be asked for name, address, PPS number, and the year of donation.
Return the form to Cork Stroke Support (by post or email). We will take care of the rest (submitting to Revenue to reclaim the tax).
Why It Matters
By taking just a couple of minutes to complete a form, you can increase your donation’s value by nearly half again — meaning more funding for rehabilitation services, therapy and support programmes. It’s a powerful way to amplify the impact of your generosity without costing you anything extra.
